The transition of power on the 15th of August 2021 in Kabul from the Afghan government to the Taliban has led to thousands of people fleeing the country in search of refuge.

EMSA calls on a number of institutions and EEA countries to do everything in their power to aid people seeking refuge, establish safe travel routes and grant asylum to as many Afghan refugees and vulnerable groups as possible. We call on the European Union to coordinate a joint response including relevant NGOs and human rights organisations.
Humanitarian crises concern us all. Recent months and years have unfortunately contained many events which can be identified as humanitarian crises, including wildfires, floods and wars. As healthcare professionals of tomorrow, we believe that life and dignity always have to be protected and their value preserved, no matter what the surrounding political circumstances are.
