Today, we are celebrating World No Tobacco Day. This global campaign is to keep us remembering of the achievements we have made in the past decades when we work towards a world free from tobacco.

This year, World No Tobacco Day focuses on us, young people, with its theme “Protecting youth from industry manipulation and preventing them from tobacco and nicotine use”. For decades, the tobacco industry has been targeting young people by making their products glamorous and using attractive marketing strategies. This has resulted in 1 out of 8 children between the ages of 13 and 15 smoking. And while we have been trying to tackle this by implementing more and more legislation, young people are still being seduced into this unhealthy behaviour, over and over again.

Today is our day. Today is the day for young people to say it is enough.

It is time to break these tobacco tactics that undermine public health. It is time to speak up and to stop the tobacco industry’s influence on youth. It is time to act against tobacco and protect youth.
