Our European Health Policy Director Felix Machleid represented EMSA at the 5th eHealth Stakeholder Group Meeting which took place on the 26th of April in Brussels, Belgium.
The eHealth Stakeholder Group (eHSG) is a temporary expert group associated with DG SANTE (Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety) and DG CONNECT (Directorate-General Communications Network, Content and Technology). The aim of the group is to assists the eHealth network of the European Member States in the preparation of legislative proposals and policy initiatives. EMSA is an official member of the Stakeholder Group from 2016 – 2018 and has the opportunity to engage in the design, implementation and evaluation of eHealth policy activities.
The meeting focused on the current state of play of activities and future means of action of the DG SANTE, DG CONNECT and the different working groups within the eHSG. Particularly worthy of mention is the recent communication of the European Commission. It contains intentions to further actions to achieve the goals of the Digital Single Market Strategy. empowering citizens and building a healthier society. EMSA welcomes the publication of the communication as it is an important step in enabling the digital transformation of healthcare in the Digital Single Market.
Further, the working group on ‘Citizens and Data’ in which EMSA is involved presented their work to the other stakeholders and discussed further steps. The meeting overall was great opportunity to get in contact with all relevant stakeholders and to tie the work being done in the European Health Policy Pillar, especially in the European Support Division on eHealth, closer to the work of the European Institutions.
