EMSA President 2017-2018

Nikolaos c. Xifaras

EMSA Secretary General 2017-2018

1. please tell us about your work ın emsa:

Teuta:

I am responsible for the management of the EMSA European Board and coordination of the Executive Board. I also represent EMSA towards external relations while maintaining and establishing contacts with relevant institutions being them (non-)medical, (non-)students, European and international entities. I am co-responsible for the financial stability of the organisation together with the Treasurer and the functionality of the alumni network together with the Alumni Coordinator. I prepare preliminary agendas for board meetings and face to face meetings and chairperson them and do my best to ensure that the objectives of EMSA Statutes and Internal Rules are observed.

Nick:

My job in EMSA can be boiled down to two words: communication and governance. I am responsible for overseeing the internal communications of EMSA, for ensuring the quality of the minutes and other important documents of our meetings and for the contact between the European level and the national and local members. Additionally, a big part of my job is the registration and management of the members, the administration of the EMSA internal structure and the maintenance of our governance documents, like the Statutes and Internal Rules.

2. what is your favourite moment in emsa ?

teuta:

There are many great memories, I feel like every day we spend together at EMSA Meetings is special in it’s own way. Being able to come together, develop lifetime friendships, share our thoughts, dreams and visions while trying to shape and improve the future of medical students all over Europe is the most precious gift of all.

Nick:

I will cheat in this question by mentioning more than one! Maybe my favourite, “big” moment was the elections in the Autumn Assembly. It was a surreal moment; I was so moved by the trust of so many people, and still couldn’t stop to celebrate, because I had to keep writing the minutes! Truly an amazing few seconds! But I believe the best moments are always the simplest, happiest times you share with others, sometimes as simple as just climbing up a hill together to watch the view.

3. what do you dream to do in future ?

teuta:

I dream of being a successful OB/GYN and obtain a Ph.D. in Medical Education.

Nick:

After med school? My childhood dream was to go into neurology! Now, I think this has transformed into wanting to connect this old love of mine with the field of public health. So many people could benefit from that. And, as a person who adores dealing with systems big and small, would there be a better choice of career?

4. do you have a motto, ıf yes, what ıs ıt ?

teuta:

Do your best so you can’t blame yourself!

Nick:

Question everything.

5. What is the definition of emsa blue spirit to you ?

teuta:

EMSA Blue Spirit is the feeling that keeps us going, the intrinsic engine running by which we overcome all the differences and share the best times of our lives together!

Nick:

I’d say it’s a dedication, to one another and to the vision of EMSA. A desire to do whatever you can to bring us all one step closer to achieving that vision.

6. describe emsa in just three words (Health, europe, together is not allowed):

teuta:

Fun, challenging and inspiring!

Nick:

Vision, dream, future.

7. now some fun questions. where would you go in a time machine ?

teuta:

I would go into the future in a time when life is possible on Mars.

Nick:

Such a good question! I would go years in the future, at some point when we start escaping from the confines of Earth to discover and explore the reaches of the universe! Humans are meant to be travellers and explorers, and I’d love to witness that from up close!

8. final question: what is your phone or computer wallpaper ?

teuta:

My computer wallpaper has the EMSA logo with our Health.Europe.Together. motto (guilty as charged <3 ) and my phone wallpaper is a picture I took of the mesmerizing city of Budapest <3

Nick:

It’s always a landscape! I look at my computer for many hours a day, and I always choose some digital artwork featuring space landscapes… I just love them! You can just stare at it and dream about humanity, our place in the world and our future. Really recommend them!
